Awnings & Canopies
Awnings provide external shade and reduce solar gain rather than use air conditioning to cool a space after it has heated up. An awning also provides the perfect spot for al fresco entertaining. If your neighbours are a little too close an awning may offer a little extra privacy. With the British climate you need an awning of good quality, both frame and cloth. Good awnings are not cheap, cheap awnings are not good, we use top quality Brustor frames, Sattler UV rated fabrics and Somfy motors ; we don't think there is a better combination.

A deeper dutch canopy for more shade |
Dutch canopies are a neat lightweight solution to shade issues and since they put very little stress on the building they can be used in situations where an awning is inappropriate.
Because the dutch canopy folds out like an umbrella you get more shade at the corners as the picture below shows. If we put an awning on our shop it would protect better from directly in front but because of the travel of the sun through the day this would provide us with less shade overall
